Romeo and Juliet by Joan Woessner, California, circa 1986-1990
Romeo and Juliet are made of dense and gently distressed, old gold mohair with vintage shoe button eyes. Appropriately dressed in Shakespearean style, they are stitched together (but are fully jointed). The rabbit is stitched to Romeo’s arm. Joan and Mike Woessner, from near San Diego, have been popular figures in the American bear world since the late 1980s. Joan’s label is sewn into the back seam. There is no paper label. This set is from the collection of Rosemary and Paul Volpp.
